This coin commemorates 50th anniversary of signing Austrian Independence Treaty.

Austria after the World War II was divided, similarly to Germany, into four occupation zones. Vienna, similarly to Berlin, was divided additionally into four zones as well. Only on May 15, 1955 occupants returned full ruling power to Austrians. The document was signed with seals on two last pages by contemporary ministers of foreign affairs and ambassadors of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and France as well as by the minister of foreign affairs of Austria - Leopold Figl (with green ink).
