This coin commemorates the accession of Bulgaria to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). The treaty was ratified on March 18, 2004 and delivered to Washington, USA on March 29 together with ratified documents of six other new members of NATO (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania). The latter date is celebrated as the day of Bulgaria's accession to NATO.
