To commemorate the celebrations of 1300 years of Bulgaria it was decided to stress on the friendship with the most important ally of Bulgaria - the Soviet Union. In both of the countries a coin was issued of the same size, the same reverse and similar obverse. Interestingly the inscription ДРУЖБА НАВЕКИ (eternal friendship) are spelled exactly the same way in both Russian and Bulgarian languages.
