This coin was struck to promote the World Championschip of Football organised by FIFA (in French Fédération Internationale de Football Association - International Federation of Association Football). In 1982 the World Cup took place in Spain and the trophy was awarded to Italy. Footballers from Bulgaria did not qualify to this event.

A pin with a logo of the Bulgarian Football Federation (Българска федерация по футбол) renamed into the Bulgarian Football Union (Български футболен съюз) on June 27, 1985.
