The commemorative coin with face value 10 kroner from 1986 commemorates 18th birthday of the heir to the throne of Denmark - Prince Frederick. Prince Frederick André Henrik Christian was born in Copenhagen on May 26, 1968.

This coin is the first commemorative coin in the modern history of the Danish mint issued for real circulation. Earlier commemorative editions struck in silver were sold more expensive than indicated the face value and the surplus money was allocated for specific funds, or social goals. Their function was therefore closer to the donation certificates rather than coins.
