Danish thematic series of coins "Polar Year" was issued to promote 3rd International Polar Year 2007-2009. The concept of the polar year appeared at the end of the 19th century, when scientists managed to coordinate investigations of polar regions in such a way that studies were performed in many countries in the same year. Denmark focused their scientific powers on their polar island Greenland and the Royal Mint promoted their efforts on three types of coins:
10 kroner - Polar Bear (Isbjørn) (2007)
10 kroner - Sirius (Sirius) (2008)
10 kroner - Northern Lights (Nordlys) (2009) |
