On some of obverses of coins with face value 5 krooni from 1993 there is a letter M rotated by 90 degrees at the head of the lowest lion. Less coins with the letter M entered the circulation than coins without it. The meaning of the mark is not yet explained.
interesting facts:
The commemorative coin of 5 krooni from 1993 was struck to commemorate the 75th anniversary of announcing Estonian independence. The main motif of coin's reverse in the sculpture of a fawn (in Estonian Metskits) created by Estonian sculptor and painter Jaan Koorti in 1929. The sculpture can be admired in the Art Museum of Estonia (Eesti Kunstimuuseaum) in Tallin.
