interesting facts:
One of the theatres of the Napoleonic Wars was the Finnish War between Sweden and Russia. Tsar Alexander I at the end of 1808 years conquered the whole Finland and cleaned it from the Swedish army. Finnish assembly of Four Estates (acting as parliament by the Swedish legislation) swore allegiance to Russia in the cathedral of Porvoo on March 28, 1809. Tsar accepted the homage and formed on Finnish lands the Grand Duchy of Finland with a very high degree of autonomy within Russia. Thus, after 560 years of Swedish government Finland was granted a partial independence. Finnish commemorative coin of 2 euro from 2009 commemorates the 200th anniversary of the assembly in Porvoo.
