interesting facts:
Russia cared stategically about their territory of the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland. By removing Swedes from Finland in 1808 Russians made virtually impossible any Swedish attack to the nearby capital of Russia - St. Petersburg. In 1811 Tsar Alexander I issued a decree founding in the capital of Finland, Turku a credit union called Waihetus- Laina- ja Depositioni-Contorin. Finns have converted this institution into the National Bank of Finland, which was gradually taking over typical duties of the central bank. Finnish commemorative coin of 2 euro from 2011, commemorates the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Waihetus- Laina- ja Depositioni-Contorin.
