interesting facts:
In 1991, right after announcing the independence, the Vilnius Mint was not well prepared for any mass production of circulation coins. Therefore coins of a face value higher than 5 centas were ordered at Birmingham Mint, United Kingdom. The production of aluminium cents launched on October 2, 1992. They were backdated to '1991' and in this unchanged form they have been continuously minted till 2013.
