interesting facts:
Coins of face values 10, 20 and 50 centas of this type were minted only with 1991 date. Despite different pattern and alloy than the newer issue, the coins are still circulating, but once intercepted by the Central Bank they do not return to circulation. One interesting fact is that Petras Garška was awarded only the 2nd place in the competition for Lithuanian cent-coins design. No winner was selected. We are attaching "the winning" proposal of Petras Garška (source: www.lb.lt). Another interesting fact is that the competition requirements were based on Soviet coinage convention with face values 1, 2, 3, 10, 15 and 20 centas. Nationalist feelings prevailed, however, and the system was changed.
