One third of the Slovak territory is covered by forest. It is not surprising that wood was the primary building material for not only houses, but also places of worship. In Slovakia, there are many wooden churches that are rightly called gems of religious architecture (some appear on the World Heritage List of the UNESCO). One of such is the 18th Century church of St. Nicholas in Kožuchovce, whose bell tower became the motif for the 10 halierov coin. The church, built and decorated by unknown artists was entirely moved to the Eastern Slovak Museum in Košice in the 20s of the 20th Century.
