This coin belongs to the series promoting federal states of Germany. The Ludwig's Church (Ludwigskirche) in Saarbrücken was chosen the most characteristic for the Saarland state. This Protestant church was designed in barocco style by Friedrich Joachim Stengel and completed in 1775.
