Commemorative coin with face value of 20 kroner from 2013 commemorates the discovery of the electromagnetic force by Hans Christian Ørsted (1777-1851). On April 21, 1820 this Danish physicist and chemist being a professor at the University of Copenhagen conducted a scientific experiment, which showed that the compass needle pointing normally north deviates from this direction under action of electric current flowing through a wire suspended above the compass. This test was the result of his search for the relationship between electricity and magnetism. A few months after the experiment he published a paper explaining the mechanism of electromagnetism, which became a milestone in the field of physics.

The Danish series of thematic coins "Scientists" was launched to commemorate the centenary of the publication of the atomic model by Niels Bohr. Danes decided to show that Bohr was not the only Danish, who had part in the history of scientific progress. The thematic series includes:
