interesting facts:

Birštonas was a place of rest for Lithuanian Dukes as early as in the 14th century, but only in 1846 deep well mineral water was discovered here and their use in medicine begun. In the beginning of the 20th century construction of medical facilities was expanded. Hotels, sanatoriums, and hospitals appeared and Birštonas rose to the rank of the largest contemporary resort in Lithuania.
