BULGARIA Republic (from 1999) - Bulgarian lev [BGN]

On July 5, 1999 a denomination of Bulgarian currency was executed. Old 1000 leva [BGL] were exchanged into one new lev [BGN]. In this way Bulgarian currency became nominally equal to German mark [DEM], with which it has been pegged since 1997. When euro [EUR] replaced the mark, Bulgarian lev was pegged automatically to euro with the same ratio as German mark 1.95583 BGN for 1 EUR.
