interesting facts:
Before architect Jørn Utzon (1918-2008) designed the Opera House in Sydney, Australia, he had tried smaller designs, of which the most controversial was constructed in Svaneke on the island of Bornholm. The concept of a concrete water tower of a non-standard shape inspired by the shape of coastal beacons was rejected by the Svaneke city council, but the mayor approved it anyway. The tower was built in 1952 and the 29-metre high tower is today a powerful beacon for tourists visiting Bornholm.

The coin series "Towers" (Tårnmønter) are dedicated to one of the most famous Danish architects Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971). To commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth a coin was struck with his most famous design - the tower of Aarhus city hall. The series continued until 2007 and it contains ten coins:
