interesting facts:
The Faroe Islands lack forests and therefore the traditional boats were also built from wood drifting ashore. Fisheries and transport between the islands of the archipelago required long units to cope with the sea waves. The boat equipment included also a mast and sail that were set up during favorable wind. Depending on the availability of construction material several different types of boats were built, of which the largest could fit 8 people. Today, these boats are built of plastics and are used mostly for traditional races.
