Traditional boats of Inuit (Eskimo) kayaks and umiaks are built in Greenland for the past one thousand years from seal skin stretched on the bones of whale skeletons. The image below presenting umiak and two kayaks was painted in 1770 by David Kranz.

The coin series "Ships" (Skibsmønter) presents Denmark as a country of sailors. This series was inspired by a successful scientific expedition Galathea III, which was commemorated with a coin with the frigate Vædderen. The National Bank of Denmark issued 12 commemorative coins in this thematic series:
